Ingredients:
- 1 kg mutton (preferably shoulder or leg, cut into pieces)
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons ginger paste
- 2 tablespoons garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon cumin powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Fresh coriander leaves and lemon wedges for garnish
Marinade:
- In a large bowl, mix yogurt, ginger paste, garlic paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, salt, lemon juice, and vegetable oil.
- Add the mutton pieces to the marinade and coat them thoroughly. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
Cooking Method:
- Preheat your grill or BBQ to medium-high heat.
- Skewer the marinated mutton pieces onto metal skewers or bamboo sticks that have been soaked in water.
- Place the skewers on the grill and cook, turning occasionally, until the mutton is evenly browned and cooked through, about 15-20 minutes depending on the thickness of the pieces.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves and lemon wedges. Optionally, you can serve it with naan bread or rice and a side of yogurt raita.
FAQs:
1. Can I use any other meat instead of mutton? You can substitute mutton with lamb if you prefer. Beef can also be used, but the cooking time may vary.
2. Can I oven-bake instead of grilling? Yes, you can bake the marinated mutton in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for about 25-30 minutes or until fully cooked, turning halfway through.
3. How spicy is this dish? The spice level can be adjusted to your preference by increasing or decreasing the amount of red chili powder used in the marinade.
